Klein Curaçao Day Trips
What to pack for a Klein Curaçao day trip
What to pack for Klein Curaçao: reef-safe sunscreen, shoes for the lighthouse, dry bag, rash guard. What shared day trips already include — and what they never will.
Klein Curaçao has no shop, no ATM, no cafe and almost no shade. Pack as if you are going to a desert beach with excellent snorkeling and a hot walk to a lighthouse. Shared day trips cover the boat, usually lunch and usually snorkel gear. They do not cover your sunburn, your flip-flops on coral rock, or the phone you left in a supermarket zip bag.
Read the inclusions on the boat you booked, then pack the gap. Over-packing clothes is how people lose hats on the crossing. Under-packing water and shoes is how they skip the only landmark on the island.
What the boat usually covers
Crew, life jackets, the crossing, and on most full-day products lunch and snorkel gear. Drinks vary — some cats are generous, some are not. Pickup is an option, not a default. Screenshot the marina either way.
Towels are rarely a good one if they exist. Umbrellas on the beach are not a given unless you booked a beach-house product (a different category). Assume you sit on your own towel on hot sand.
What you have to bring or you will regret it
Reef-safe sunscreen, reapplied. A rash guard for the back of your legs and the walk. Shoes that can take coral rock — not dressy flip-flops. A dry bag for phone, tickets and a little cash. Water beyond what you think you need if you walk to the light.
A hat that stays on a boat, or a clip. Motion-sickness tablets if you have ever needed them, taken before you leave the marina. After-sun for the van home. You will be salty and tired.
Day-trip packing list
- Swimwear and a rash guard — sun on Klein Curaçao is the activity
- Reef-safe sunscreen and a face stick you will actually reapply
- Towel the boat will not provide well
- Dry bag: phone, ID, voucher, a little cash
- Shoes for the lighthouse — trainers or sturdy sandals you can get wet
- Hat with a clip, or skip it on a windy deck
- Refillable bottle plus extra water if you hike
- Your own mask if rental ones never seal
- Motion-sickness tablets if you are prone — before departure
- Light cover-up for air-con on the way back to the hotel
- After-sun or aloe
- Simple anti-fog for the mask you already trust
Why packing is part of the tour
People ruin the lighthouse walk in flip-flops and skip snorkel because they burned in the first hour. The island is the activity. The boat cannot sell you a second pair of shoes at the landing.
What to expect on the day
- 1Hot, reflective sand with little or no natural shade at the main landing.
- 2Salt and wind on both crossings. Cotton stays wet; a rash guard earns its keep.
- 3No ATMs, no cafes, no “I’ll buy water there.” There is no there.
- 4Snorkel gear on most boats — try the mask in shallow water before you swim off.
- 5A tired, salty van or taxi ride home. Pack a dry layer for that, not another outfit for the boat.
