How to get to Klein Curaçao
There is no ferry to Klein Curaçao. How to book a catamaran, powerboat or private yacht for the crossing from Curaçao — times, distance and what “tour” actually means.
Klein Curaçao sits about eight miles (13 km) southeast of Curaçao. You cannot drive. There is no public ferry, no scheduled water taxi for walk-ups, and no hotel shuttle that lands you on the beach. Every visit is a booked boat: shared catamaran, powerboat or private charter.
That is the entire logistics problem. Choose hull type first (comfort vs speed vs privacy), then the operator. Ignore “island tours” that never leave the Curaçao coast — they will not put you on Klein Curaçao no matter how tropical the photos look.
Why there is no ferry
The island is uninhabited. There is no dock service for independents, no immigration shed, no cafe to wait in. Operators run insured crossings with crews who know the channel and when not to go. That is the product you are buying: not a ticket to a theme park, a ride to a strip of sand and back before dark.
Private yachts can go if they are qualified and legal. Almost nobody on holiday is in that category. Book a tour.
How long the crossing takes
Powerboats often run around 45 minutes each way in decent seas. Catamarans more often 60–90 minutes. Add marina check-in, briefing, island time and the return: plan on 7–9 hours for a full day. There is no honest half-day Klein Curaçao.
Morning departures are the norm because you need daylight on both legs. Sunset products on Curaçao’s coast are a different trip — Cur365 does not sell them as Klein Curaçao.
Why you have to book in advance
Popular cats and private yachts fill in high season. Same-day marina walk-up is a myth you should not plan a cruise port day around. Book, screenshot the marina, and pack as if there is no shop — because there isn’t.
What to expect on the day
- 1A booking on a named Klein Curaçao tour, not a generic Curaçao snorkel sail.
- 2Check-in at a Curaçao marina (or pickup if your option includes it), usually early morning.
- 3Open-water crossing of 45–90 minutes depending on boat type.
- 4Hours on the uninhabited island: beach, snorkel, optional lighthouse.
- 5Return the same afternoon. You sleep on Curaçao, not on Klein Curaçao.
